Oliver Marsden

Marsden creates sculptural paintings, which act to fuse a sensual appreciation of the natural and scientific, where the random or organic meets mathematic structure. Deceptively simple, his large-scale abstract paintings and sculptures have a hypnotic quality that is both immediate, sympathetic and dynamic. He is interested in a pre-language sensory communication using colour and elemental geometric forms and in how an image can change its form or meaning depending upon how one interacts with it, temporal issues, one’s internal chemistry and variance in ambient light levels. For him, painting is a spiritual and physical meditational practice linked to a search for an understanding of nature and energy.
