Lee’s most recent body of work explores a specific moment in the history of The Peoples Temple movement, which was formed in Indiana 1955, but later relocated to Guyana after several pressures within the US. Initially set up as a New Religious Community, the group embraced a belief system that combined several religious and social ideals. On the 18th November 1978 the utopian settlement came to a tragic and fatal end. The small scale of the paintings and distillation of photographic information question the appropriate representation and communication of an appalling atrocity.
